Compare to living in a hotel, a hostel is warmer, more friendly, and the most importantly, cheaper. You can enjoy the traditional Japan life style and share experience with people from other countries. If you prefer to keep some space for your own, hostel may not be a decent choice. In my opinion, the primary value of hostel is that you can get closer to the local culture and exchange viewpoint with foreigners at the same time. And it's also the reason I choose to stay in
Hostel Ann Nagoya when I traveled in Nagoya as a backpacker.
